PEARLS JWC of Rabun

Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation

 

Clubwomen are encouraged to select a department of work wherein their interest lies. There is something for everyone who becomes a member. The six departments of work and their programs are Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Affairs, and Public Affars.


Arts Department


Conservation Department


 

Projects encouraging artistic expression, and preserving art as a natural resource.

  • Arts in The Community (VSA, music, drama, member craft contests)
  • Writing Contests (member/youth short story, poetry contests)
  • Photography Contests (photography, painting, student art contests)
  • Some local club projects-RCHS band members attended a meeting to inform us about the band program and funds were donated to four local schools for their art departments.

  •  

    Projects promoting increasing awareness of energy options, preserving natural resources and education of waste management.

  • Beautification (Community Beautification, Litter prevention, Tree Planting/Preservation projects)
  • Resource Conservation (Education and Awareness (Preservation local, state, national parks, endangered ecosystems and wildlife.)
  • Some local club projects-Adopt-A-Highway litter pickup, planting flower bulbs at the Senior Center and Clayton Housing Authority, observing Earth Day and America Recycles Day by distributing recycling and conservation materials at club meetings, and a presentation by Clayton Climate Savers about drought and salamanders.

    Home Life Department


     

    Projects raising awareness of adult/youth literacy and continuing education programs among women.

  • Literacy (Adult, Family, Youth/Aspire)
  • Lifelong Learning (Club and Community Awareness and Education), (HOBY, ESO, Support Libraries, Libraries 2000)
  • Some local club projects-granting scholarships to local students, partnering with Clayton Woman's Club to host a Mentor Breakfast at Rabun County Middle School, volunteering at school events, and sponsoring a student to attend an education program in Washington, DC.

    Projects providing education on financial issues & health awareness.

  • Helping Hands (National Organization on Disability (NOD), Canine Companions for Independence , March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, Easter Seals
  • Dollars & Sense (Education and Awareness)
  • Women's Health (Healthy Lifestyles, Women's Wellness, Strong Women)
  • Some local club projects-volunteering with Richard's Kids to shop for children and families in need, volunteering at mobile food pantries to distribute 10,000 lbs of food to families, partnering with the local post offices for the Stamp Out Hunger program, participating in blood drives, and adopting residents of the Mountain View home at Christmas.

  • International Affairs


    Public Affairs


     

    Projects promoting understanding and acceptance of all peoples and providing international aid.

  • Reaching Out Internationally (Childreach, Operation Smile, CARE) Special Projects (World Food Day, Well Baby Clinic/Vitamins for children, Global Volunteers, Cultural Exchange)
  • United Nations (Global Education, UNICEF, Maternal/Neonatal, Tetanus
  • Some local club projects-donating funds to TAP, purchasing mosquito nets through Malaria No More, participating in Operation Christmas Child, and donating to Heifer, Intl.

    Projects reducing violence, fostering civic involvement, and increasing safety for older Americans.

  • Citizenship (Participation, Historic Preservation, )
  • Community Safety (Violence Against Women, Children/Youth) (Home Safety for Children/Older Americans, Vehicle/Highway Safety for all ages.
  • Some local club projects-Organizing, printing, and distributing WHALE (We Have A Little Emergency) child safey packets to parents and caregivers, encouraging members to vote in all elections, donating to the Rabun County Historical Society, distributing materials on domestic violence at club meetings, and donating children's items to the local shelter.

  • 2008-2010 Jr. Clubs Special Project
    Get Fit for Life-Combatting Childhood Obesity


    Local club projects-donating funds to the Trailblazers running program at Rabun Gap Community School, purchasing P.E. equipment for South Rabun Elementary School, providing an activities booth of jump roping and hula-hooping at the Rabun Gap Community School Winter Carnival, and organizing a Fun Run and Tot Trot during Celebrate Clayton.
